ASME SA179 carbon steel tubes are low-carbon steel tubes that are used in heat exchangers, condensers, and other heat transfer applications. They are also known as mild steel pipes. Here are some characteristics of ASME SA179 carbon steel tubes:

• Composition: Contain 0.06–0.18% carbon and 0.27–0.63% manganese 
• Strength: Have excellent tensile and yield strength 
• Corrosion resistance: Have good resistance to corrosion, oxidation, pitting, acid, and crevice corrosion 
• Thermal conductivity: Have excellent thermal conductivity 
• Density: Have a density of approximately 7.85 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³) 
• Melting point: Have a melting point ranging from 1420 to 1460°C (2588 to 2660°F) 
• Sizes: Available in standard sizes with outer diameters of 3/4 in, 1 in, 1¼ in, 1½ in, 2 in, 2½ in, and 3 in 
• Wall thickness: Wall thickness is specified in BWG (Birmingham Wire Gauge) and millimeters 
• Heat treatment: Tubes are heat treated after the final cold draw pass at a temperature of 1200°F (650°C) or higher .
